USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND INFORMATION OPPORTUNITIES IN CREATING A PROFILE OF A CRIMINAL

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to carry out the historical development of the formation of the psychological, criminological and forensic profile of the criminal, to analyze the possibilities of using artificial intelligence in the formation of the profile of the offender in modern conditions. A generalization is made and the positive and negative consequences of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) are given, and the possible risks of forensic profiling are indicated. Methods. The methods used in the work made it possible to fully achieve the set goal. The basis was such methods as logical-structural, which made it possible to present the scientific material logically and consistently, historically comparative, which made it possible to single out in chronological order the development of the affected issues, such methods as analysis, synthesis, and the method of logical generalization were also used. The results. The scientific work is devoted to methods of profiling criminals using artificial intelligence (AI). The main attention is paid to forensic and psychological aspects, which are used to create a psychological portrait of a criminal. The stages of the analysis are described, including the assessment of the crime scene, the suspect’s behavioral and social characteristics, his motives, and possible mental disorders. The paper also examines the historical development of profiling, from the work of Cesare Lombroso and Hans Gross to modern advances such as suspect interviewing and geographic analysis. Considerable attention is paid to the work of specialist practitioners, Robert Ressler, an outstanding FBI profiler who worked together with John Douglas. The works of David Kanter, a psychologist, the founder of the so-called "investment psychology", are analyzed. His research involves the use of psychological methods for criminal profiling, including spatial analysis of criminal behavior at crime scenes. Special emphasis is placed on the use of artificial intelligence (AI), which helps analyze large data sets, predict likely crime scenes and identify psychological traits of suspects. Thus, the work highlights the significant potential of profiling for prompt investigation of crimes and faster identification of suspects. Conclusions. Іnvestigators should use artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities only as a supporting tool and make final decisions on their own. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in forensic profiling can significantly improve the ability of law enforcement agencies to work efficiently and accurately at various stages of criminal proceedings, even in the process of preparing and conducting individual investigative actions, especially interrogation, investigative experiment and other covert investigative (detective) investigative actions. Using the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) requires a responsible and careful approach. Therefore, compiling a profile of an offender will help to narrow down the circle of suspects, will create opportunities for the investigative body to obtain important theories about the motives and nature of the criminal, which can significantly speed up the investigation.
