Purpose of the article is to establish the concept, characteristics, and features of the mechanism for legislative support of environmental sustainability of forests in Ukraine. The methodological basis of the research are the methods of analysis and synthesis, as well as grouping and structural-functional methods, which are used to differentiate modern scientific approaches to determining the elemental structure of the mechanism of legal regulation of social relations and to establish the elements of the mechanism of legislative support for the ecological sustainability of forests in Ukraine. Results. The legal nature of the mechanism for legislative enforcement of environmental sustainability of forests in Ukraine is revealed through such elements as: 1) the specificity of sources of law through which the relevant mechanism acquires legal form; 2) the object and subject composition of legal relations; 3) the combinatorics of methods of legal regulation (permits, prohibitions, and positive obligations) that are reflected in the norms of law; 4) the purpose of legal regulation; 5) the scale of integration into sectoral mechanisms of legal regulation of social relations. Conclusions. It has been determined that the mechanism for ensuring the environmental sustainability of forests in Ukraine is a set or system of legal means and actions (legal norms, legal facts, legal relations, etc.) and legal means and technologies (law enforcement and application), as well as their combinations, implemented by the provisions of Ukraine's forestry legislation, which, embodied in a wide range of ways in which the provisions of forestry legislation legally influence social relations aimed at ensuring the functioning of the forestry management system (forest use, development of forest resources, forest consumption, reproduction of forest resources, forest conversion, forest management, conservation, protection, and preservation of forests), which ensures the preservation and/or restoration of the ability of forest ecosystems in Ukraine or its individual regions to maintain their ecological properties under the influence of external loads in the form of natural and anthropogenic impacts in the context of changes in the country's forest areas.
